Island County Retreat: Designed for Durable Serenity
Balancing Personal Sanctuary with Short-Term Rental Performance.
When a busy Seattle couple approached us with their newly acquired property in Island County, the brief was twofold: create a deeply restorative personal escape from their demanding professional lives, and ensure the home was operationally ready for the high-traffic demands of the Airbnb market. The challenge lay in achieving a high-end, curated aesthetic while strictly adhering to a sensible budget by integrating existing pieces and prioritizing rugged, contract-grade materials.
Our design strategy focused on a "nature-informed" palette that mirrors the Pacific Northwest landscape visible through the home’s expansive windows. We utilized deep moss greens, warm ochres, and slate blues—colors that provide visual depth while strategically masking the inevitable wear of guest turnover. By selecting high-performance fabrics and durable finishes, we ensured the furniture could withstand frequent cleaning without losing its tactile appeal.
